Indeed, although it supports the stylus, it's very rare that you need to use it because the developer's done such a good job of mapping essential functions to the eight buttons available. Most notably, in terms of changes, is the DS version's interface, which has, of course, been streamlined to suit the diminutive machine. The tech tree allows for excitingly anachronistic showdowns. And the main thrust of the game is the management of each city's resources managing population growth, cultural achievements, building (of city enhancements and military units), economic growth, and scientific achievement (along a forking tech tree). As well as a rather nifty character portrait (who knew Elizabeth I was so hot?), the ruler of each different civilisation conveys a unique set of advantages, from Montezuma's extra gold (for the Aztecs) to Shaka's low cost rifles (for the Zulus). Manage population growth, exploit natural resources and negotiate with other rulers until your band of settlers grows into a fully-fledged civilisation ("from the Stone Age to the Space Age" as the game puts it). Great Wonders each confer significant benefits to your people. Which is a pretty considerable achievement. If it's been a while since you last played Civilization, you'd struggle to tell what the difference is between this version and other versions of the game.
